Gone are the days

This in response to cubby’s Reowr Homophone Misuse poetry challenge. She provided the italicized lines. We were asked to finish the poem.

Gone are the days of princesses

And nights in shining armor

Loves sweet whisper is no longer heard

And inspires no more ardor

“The king is dead,” is the word that’s said

Across the crowd filled streets

The courtly tables are absent of

There pastries and sweet meets

The queen within her gilded hauls

Crying rivers of crocodile tears

The knights of the realm beet their chests

And wallow in their beers

No pubs with tankards overflowing with ail

Singing merrily this day

As morning the death of the once great king

Has fettered all joy away.
